An unprotected pool going into an Alexandria winter can end up with cracked plumbing, a stained liner, or a pump that will not start again in April. Freeze-thaw cycles along the Potomac and lingering fall humidity put real strain on pool equipment here.
Potomac Pool Service has served Alexandria and Northern Virginia pool owners since 2003, and our winterization service in Alexandria is built around what local homeowners actually deal with each winter, whether you own a pool near Old Town Alexandria or elsewhere in the city.
When you need a pool closing service in Alexandria that shows up, communicates clearly, and protects your investment properly, Potomac Pools is the answer. Here is what sets us apart:
As your local pool care experts, we offer a full range of professional winterization services in Alexandria designed to get your pool properly protected before winter sets in and ready to reopen without surprises in spring.
Our core winterization service in Alexandria covers water balancing, equipment blow-out, plumbing protection, and a properly fitted cover, helping protect the plumbing and equipment most vulnerable to freezing temperatures.
We take the stress out of both ends of the season. Our Fall Winterization protects your investment through the cold months, and our Spring Opening gets your pool swim-ready the moment the weather turns.
From cracked returns to failing pumps, our professional pool repair team diagnoses problems accurately and fixes them right the first time, before they turn into a bigger issue during closing season.
Is your pool showing its age before you even close it for winter? Our renovation team handles coping, tile work, Pebble Tec resurfacing, and full deck restoration, so your pool is in better shape heading into the off-season.
Reduce your energy bills and environmental footprint with energy-efficient pumps, saltwater systems, and advanced filtration, all compatible with our winterization and preparation services in Alexandria.
Whether you prefer full-service pool care or only need seasonal closing support, our packages below are designed to match different maintenance needs.

Proper pool winterization separates a pool that reopens smoothly in spring from one facing a burst pipe or an algae-covered mess. Alexandria’s humid summers and freezing winters strain plumbing and equipment, especially in older neighborhoods like Rosemont and Seminary Hill where original pool systems are still in place. Our team stays ahead of these issues with proactive closing procedures, keeping your equipment protected and your water chemistry stable until it is time to reopen, whether you book a full package or just a seasonal closing before the holidays.
We believe quality property winterization services in Alexandria should not come with hidden fees or surprise add-ons. Our pricing is transparent from the entry-level Congressional package to the all-inclusive Presidential plan, so you know exactly what you are paying for before we start. We also offer individual winterization service on its own, so you only pay for the closing work you actually need.
We work directly with Alexandria homeowners on their backyard pools, along with HOA and condo communities looking for reliable winter pool care. That focus means your Alexandria pool winterization gets full attention rather than being squeezed in between unrelated jobs. Our technicians treat your property with respect, clean up before they leave, and walk you through what was done before the season closes.
As local pool care experts in Alexandria, we also proudly serve the surrounding communities throughout Northern Virginia:
If you are not sure whether we serve your neighborhood near the Potomac River waterfront or further out toward Franconia, give us a call at (877) 327-1833 and we will be happy to let you know.
Most Alexandria homeowners book their closing in early to mid-October, before the first hard freeze typically reaches the river corridor. Waiting until late November raises the risk of a freeze hitting before your equipment is protected, especially in older neighborhoods like Rosemont where original plumbing has less tolerance for a rushed closing.
A proper closing covers water balancing, a full equipment blow-out, plumbing antifreeze where needed, and a securely fitted cover. For Alexandria pools near the waterfront, we also pay closer attention to humidity-related corrosion on metal fittings, which is less of a concern further inland.
Our Congressional package, which covers Spring Opening and Fall Winterization only, starts at $1,340. Homeowners who want weekly service included as well can choose from our Judicial Bi-Weekly, Vice Presidential, or Presidential packages, starting at $2,900. Individual winterization service without a package is also available for a standalone closing.
Some homeowners handle basic winterization themselves, but Alexandria’s freeze-thaw cycles along the Potomac make it easy to miss a line that later cracks under pressure. A professional closing catches issues in aging equipment, particularly in older Alexandria neighborhoods, before they turn into a costly spring repair.
Yes. In addition to backyard residential pools, we service HOA and condo community pools throughout Alexandria neighborhoods like Cameron Station and Potomac Yard, coordinating directly with property managers on scheduling.
We trust Potomac Pools with our comprehensive pool projects and with our summer weekly pool servicing. Melanie was very easy to work with and was extremely responsive throughout a big renovation project. It was definitely refreshing to hire a local family-owned business. We are extremely satisfied with the results, and the project was completed on time and on budget.
I used to do my own maintenance but decided to give Potomac a try a couple of years ago and have been absolutely delighted with the service ever since. They are professional, on top of things, do great work and have a wonderful team. They are certainly leading the industry in quality and service and keep my pool sparkling clean.
Excellent service, friendly staff, very fair price, and more." The technician showed up on time, worked efficiently, and when he was done, he made sure the area was cleaned up. He then stood with me and educated me about what I might need to do over the winter. I will definitely use them again and highly recommend this company.
